Recorded one evening in a single take, an exploration through the mind of a circuit-bent Casio SK-1.

It begins with a short improvisation on the flute tone, then degrades into noisy landscapes. Like driving through the Painted Desert National Park, occasionally stopping to take in a scene of unusual but beautifully colorful rock formations.

Circuit-bending is the process of modifying vintage electronics or toys in unintended ways to essentially "hack" the sound chips to make odd noises. It's an uncalculated process that requires no technical background, involves trial and error, and often results in unreproducible or fleeting effects. I circuit-bent this Casio SK-1 keyboard in 2005, and it's been one of my favorite instruments ever since. This album captures its essence to me: lofi and ambient, textural and looping, but always changing.

This album is the first of a series of releases under the new Wonderful World project.
